Why is my SwissBorg Account Being Moved to France?

Overview

SwissBorg has transitioned to a new EU-regulated entity, BlockNodes SAS, based in France. This move is part of SwissBorg's commitment to aligning with the latest European crypto regulations under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework, serving the EEA, UK and Swiss communities under one regulated home and ensuring greater security and regulatory compliance for all users.

Why is this happening?

The European Union's MiCA regulation introduces a unified legal framework for crypto-asset service providers across all EU member states. To continue offering services in full compliance with these regulations, SwissBorg has migrated accounts to BlockNodes SAS, a MiCA-authorised entity registered in France.

This transition ensures that:

  • Your account remains fully compliant with EU regulations.
  • Your assets continue to be protected under a robust regulatory framework.
  • SwissBorg can continue to provide its services across the EU without interruption.

Will anything change?

The core SwissBorg experience remains the same. You will continue to use the same app and have access to all the features you currently enjoy. Any material changes to terms or conditions will continue being communicated to you directly, so keep an eye out for emails and app notifications.

What does this mean for you?

The migration was automatic. There is no opt-out process for this migration, as it is required to maintain regulatory compliance. You can continue using the SwissBorg app exactly as before, with the added protection of comprehensive European regulation. Your account, assets, and settings were transferred seamlessly to the new entity on 22 June 2026.

For much of our community, no action was required, but bear in mind the following:

  • ID Update: some Borgers may have been prompted to provide updated identification. This is a simple check, equivalent to Level 1 verification only.
  • Update Your Bank Deposit Information: if you are based in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have received new bank deposit details for your fiat transfers. Please make sure to update the destination account details in your banking app now.

Will the data protection regime change?

Moving your account to our French MiCA-licensed entity does not change the data protection regime that applies to you.

Our previous Estonian entity was already an EU company, fully subject to the GDPR, and so is our French entity —so your data has always been, and continues being, protected under the high data-protection standards of the EU. The move does not shift you from a stronger regime to a weaker one; it's GDPR in both cases.

The migration does not create any new cross-border data issue either. The EU and Switzerland formally recognize each other as offering an equivalent level of data protection. In fact, the EU reconfirmed Switzerland's adequacy most recently in January 2024, which means personal data flows lawfully and freely between the two without any extra safeguards. Switzerland's revised Federal Act on Data Protection, in force since September 2023, is closely aligned with the GDPR, so the standards on both sides are essentially equivalent.

Your rights as a data subject (accessing your data, correcting it, requesting deletion, and objecting to certain processing) remain fully intact, under both Swiss law and the GDPR.

Rest assured, your data protection rights and privacy standards on SwissBorg remain unchanged.
